Travel beckons and the hour is drawing neigh. Since I started JourneysofJim, this will be my first Road Trip versus flying to some new locale. Something new and some new scenery always gets me excited! I want to see what is around the next corner and beyond that next rise. There will be fresh air through the windows with scents of new places yet to discover. The idea of a
road trip evokes in me thoughts of long straight highways or Route 66 or something like that. :o) There will certainly be some of that and more. I will be traveling from our fresh air and verdant mountain vistas with currently cooler climes, west into the classic South Western USA and its warmer temperatures then on into California’s central and northern regions and then back home to my bride.
This journey will take me from our Front Range in Colorado through the mountains as I head west towards Utah and into the Moab area. From there I will press on through southern Utah towards western Utah where I will have the opportunity to visit some family there, along with seeing some of Zion National Park. My travels have never taken me through that area before and and I am excited to visit an area that my grandparents used to love visiting!
I will take a turn south into Nevada and visit the high Mojave Desert area where I used to work on a cattle ranch when I was a MUCH younger lad. The time I spent in the desert had a profound impact on the way I approach new adventures and my outlook on pursuing a dream! I will spend a little more time in the area and visit the Colorado River region and the southern tip of Nevada.
After Nevada, I will travel north and west towards the California coast line and take the opportunity to visit some dear family friends and enjoy the area before continuing on to the east Bay Area and another visit with family. I am lucky to have my brother and his wife coming out to California to visit with for our regular fishing trip in the Placerville area. We spent a lot of time in the foothills when we were growing up and it is always special to go back and revisit – especially with family!
After our time in Placerville we will head back to Napa where we grew up for a nice visit with our mom and some time with more family in the Bay Area. Once my brother and sister-in-law head back home it will be about time for the return journey through central Nevada and on into northern Utah before I begin to make my way back to my beloved Colorado Rockies and see my bride again. I simply LOVE flying but I can’t tell you how excited I am for this particular journey! No doubt some of it is the fact that I will get to see family and friends. I feel like a big part of it is the fact that I really have not done an extended Road Trip on my own as well. There will be brilliant playlists, gorgeous scenery, excellent food and grand company along the way!
Stay tuned and I will be posting via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and the Blog as I roll along the way with more in-depth details of the places and people I visit from Colorado to California and back again!
